A 4 meter tall bronze sculpture developed from the gestural language of the Cantonese water sleeve dance. Drapery becomes structure: movement becomes form: a translation of gesture into volume

In my Water Sleeve Dancer drawings, I explore fluidity, rhythm, and transformation through abstract, flowing forms rendered in sanguine conté on 300gsm paper. I allow soft, diffused edges to dissolve into the surface while building richer tonal areas that suggest moments of tension and release. The warmth of the medium helps me evoke movement and presence, balancing control with spontaneity. Through layered marks and subtle shifts in pressure, I aim to capture the sweeping choreography of the sleeve, translating fleeting gestures into something more sustained, where form emerges, drifts, and re-forms across the page.
